Abstract
This study discusses how to apply public participation geographic information systems (PPGIS) to advance citizen participation in community affairs. It aims to improve the interaction and communication between citizens and decision-makers. A website was designed to display community resources and became a platform for citizens to discuss community issues. Using Web2.0 combined with GIS tools, community members were able to discuss issues and accesses resources to find creative solutions for community problems. This study assesses the impact PPGIS had in empowering citizens to find unique solutions for local matters.
