Abstract
The purpose of this study is to use
portfolio to develop an effective model
for teaching, learning and assessing
basic clinical skills. It was an action
research. A total of 15 medical students
from NTUCM and abroad participated
the study. The research included 1. Set
up essential items and performance
standards for basic clinic skills, 2.
Develop record forms for portfolio, 3.
Student teachings for including portfolio
in their study were conducted in a
format in following orders: anchoring,
scaffolding and independent
performance. Learning activities
included small group tutorials, bedside
teaching, chart review, video-teaching
and standardized patient assessment.
The results indicated the feasibility of
using portfolio in teaching, learning and
assessing basic clinical skills. By suing
portfolio, students could be motivated to
conduct their own study, the limitation
in teaching environment, case subjects
and time could be improved. It requires
longer observation time and more
students to participate to understand if
the format of using portfolio in studying
basic clinical skills could be beneficial
to some students.
