Abstract
Calocedrus macrolepis Kurz var. formosana (Florin) Cheng & L. K. Fu, a member of the Cupressaceae, is an endemic plant and it is also an important building material in Taiwan. It grows at elevations from 300 to 2000 m in the central and north mountains in Taiwan.
The acetone extract from the bark of C. microlepic var. formosana was concentrated to give a residue which was partitioned between ethyl acetate and H2O. The ethyl acetate layer was separated by column chromatography on silica gel, preparative thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to give one hundred and ten compounds. The known compounds were identified by spectral analysis and comparison with those reputed in literatures. The structures of new compounds were elucidated by spectral evidence and chemical methods. Of these, thirty two compounds are new and six compounds are isolated for the first time from natural sources. Five compounds belong to novel skeletons including N1 which combines ferruginol and
