Abstract
The research and observation from Yenshui Holy Spirit Church in Tainan, and the church murals depict the inculturation of Christianity. The research starts from the interior design and decoration of Yenshui Holy Spirit Church, which portray the theme of Christian Inculturation. Father Lee Shao-Feng, who constructs the theme of church frescos, has been ordained as a priest and serves Yenshui Holy Spirit parish for 23 years. The church frescos reflect the concept of inculturation from Father Lee Shao-Feng. For instances, the saint in china history or suffering Jesus in Chinese costume. Readers will perceive the history of religious persecution and the elements of society. To discuss Christian Inculturation in Taiwan, it’s vital to flash back the history of Catholic movement in Taiwan. The local priests and the Baptist put a lot effort since Catholicism preaches in Taiwan. They connect Catholicism and the society in Taiwan. By sharing the different culture and religion, Catholicism is more acceptable to locals. Bishop Cheng Shi-Guang, who served in Tainan parish which belongs to Yenshui Holy Spirit Church, his conception gives us the best way of comprehending Christian Inculturation. However, bishop Cheng Shi-Guang is narrowed his studies to specific living background and generation. His theory and Father Lee Shao-Feng’s ideal of Inculturation can’t meet our needs now. Therefore, Christian Inculturation supposed to start from recognizing the need of the society and to adapt itself to the changing world. As the way Societas Missionaria de Bethlehem (SMB) preaching the word of God in Taitung.
