Abstract
The objectives of this study have been to improve the electrical properties of a commercial nickel electrode by partially mixing the commercial nickel hydroxide powder with the nano-structured powder. Using the nano-structured powder addition, following characteristics were found to improve: (1) activating rate (2) voltage characteristics (3) swelling (4) high rate capability and (5) utility rate. Form EIS and cyclic voltammerty analysis results, nickel electrode partially mixed with nano-structured powder had a higher electrochemical activity and oxygen evolution potential, lower charge transfer resistance. The best performance was found for the nickel electrodes mixing with 5% nano-structured powder and 7% cobalt oxide powder. As the result, hydroxide nickel electrodes with 5% nano-structured powder addition were found to perform best in the present study.
