Abstract
The N-arylbenzohydrxamic acids (1) are obeserved to play two different roles during their reaction with [Rh(PPh3)3Cl] in 3:1 molar ration. While 1 equiv of hydroxamic acids first oxidize rhodium(I) to rhodium(III) and themselves get reduced to the corresponding amides, the other 2 equiv undergo complexation with rhodium(III) int he usual fashion to afford bis(hydroxamate) complexes of rhodium(III) (2).
