Abstract
This study uncovered the gap between scientific and technological contributions and scientific and technological influence by tracking scientists who received two national awards that recognized their scientific and technological achievements. The results show that scientific and technological contributions can be made by the same intellectual ideas, indicating the complex relationship between science and technology. Only a few scientists had received a remarkable number of citations of their scientific publications and patents over decades. The contribution–influence gap indicates that quantifying the scientific and technological contributions of some scientists is difficult.
