Abstract
The halal sector is an industry in which halal ingredients (based on Islamic dietary law) are produced and consumed in food and beverage items, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and consumer goods. While these aspects have been common features in countries that are predominantly Muslims, the emergence of the halal industry in Taiwan has been linked to an increasing number of Muslim tourists entering the country as well as a rising local Muslim population and general greater acceptance of the halal certification programme of the rest of the world. This paper embarks on the emergence and development of halal industry matters in Taiwan, considering the business ecosystem, as well as future value and prospects, of the halal industry. The study will also report on the problems faced by Taiwanese companies in terms of tapping the halal market and prospects for their future growth and expansion. An analysis of strategic efforts and market dynamics will lend pertinent information on understanding the prospects and business ecosystem of the halal industry in Taiwan.
