Abstract
Since late 1996 till mid-1998, we have
deployed three ADCP moorings, coverning the
deepest part of the Bashi Channel, as part of the
SCSMEX program. The three moorings are located at
the latitude of 20O50', 20O20' and 19O50', separated
by about 50km, and named as Luzon-1, 2, and 3,
respectively. The data we collected over 1½ -year
clearly showed a branch of Kuroshio exists in the
Channel without significant seasonal fluctuations.
From 1999, in the KUDEX project, we
continued monitoring the upper layer variations of
current and water temperature in the Bashi Channel.
Due to the equipment malfunction and lost of
moorings, only the April 2000 data are complete for
analysis (current measurements between 30~240 m,
and temperature at 90 and 200 m). Because of the
dense sampling rate, we are able to analysis the high
frequency variations in the Bashi Channel.
