Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the co-authorship characteristics of electrical and electronic of Taiwan from 1986 to 2005. The research targets are electrical and electronic journals from SCI Expanded database. We discuss from aspects of broad condition, country segment and institution segment respectively by mainly using bibliometrics approach with the aid of social network analysis. From co-authorship analysis in different levels and prospects, it is expected to have a broader and deeper understanding toward electrical and electronic co-authorship condition.
The results show that, in general, the researchers of electrical and electronic journals in Taiwan tend to apply to co-authorship since the percentage of co-authorship is 90.23% which is stable in last 20 years. The average number of authors has increased; overall average number of authors is 3.04, and a co-authorship between 2 to 3 authors is the most likely condition. But the number is increasing. Under the country level, overall percentage of international co-authorship is 10.87%. International co-authorship mostly happens with only one partner country, in which USA is the main country. Recent years, Taiwan has an increasing co-authorship with China, Japan, Singapore, Korea, and Hong Kong. Furthermore, international co-authorship articles have higher average citations than articles without international co-authorship. Under institution level, American academic institutions are main co-author partners in international co-authorship. The choice of domestic institution co-author has a close relation to geographical positions. Also, the co-authorship pattern will be different due to various institution characteristics.
