Abstract
The game rule of IC components supply chain is the same as 20 years ago: semiconductor suppliers choose big players to support, like world wide brands and 1st tiers OEM/EMS contract manufacturers, and allocate IC distributors small and middle size customers. The functions of IC distributors are lower transaction cost, improve trading efficiency, support turn-key solutions and new projects design-in. IC distributors play an important role to bridge the upstream and downstream of electronic industry.nterprises use internet to improve the operations of supply chain and interactions between suppliers and customers, thanks to the cost reduction of telecommunication and widely access to internet through broadband make these happened. To exploit the power of internet on IC components supply chain, “B2B e-marketplace for IC components” a feasible business model is designed to connect semiconductor suppliers and customers both groups, the value creation is matching these two groups by satisfying their demands that IC distributors cannot meet. The disintermediation is cutting off some functions of IC distributors, and reintermediation is setting up new middleman B2B e-marketplace for IC components to provide professional service in e-commerce way.he challenge jobs to design B2B e-marketplace for IC components include: identify distinct groups who need each other, establish the business models, set the price strategy, compete with IC distributors, anticipate competitors actions, and plan for next. The research focuses on strategic planning and implementation of B2B e-marketplace for IC components by analyzing the framework of “Making Markets” and “Catalyst Code”. The research also studies the successful story of B2B e-marketplaces in other industries and proposes business ideas to entrepreneurs and investors who are interested in establishing the B2B e-marketplace for IC components.
