Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the steady-state behavior and the stability of motorcycle while cornering. The model of steady-state turning and the model for the stability analysis while turning for motorcycles have been developed in this study. By using these models cooperatively, not only the steady-state behavior of motorcycle can be determined, also the stability of motorcycle while turning can be evaluated. The turning parameters, the steering torque exerted by the rider, and the stability of motorcycle, then, could be analyzed numerically. The effect of the rider lateral movement including the comparison of the rider position and the presence of the passenger on the steady-state behavior and the stability of the motorcycle are discussed. Finally by using the Taguchi approach, the design parameters of motorcycle can be better adjusted to increase the speed of motorcycle and to provide valid information of the design parameters and the cornering speed of the motorcycle.
