Abstract
Lithium manganese oxide as the cathode
material used in lithium ion-batteries was
prepared by a novel emulsion process. By using a
magnetic mixer, the single phase of LiMn2 O4 with
high crystallinity was obtained at 800 o C. This
powder exhibits a Fd3m structure which is
consistent with that simulated by a computer
program. With increasing the cation concentration,
pure LiMn2 O4 could not be obtained, and an
impure phase Mn2 O3 existed in speciemens. To
overcome this cumbersome problem, a homogenilizer was used. A well-mixed solution
was prepared and pure LiMn2 O4 was synthesized.
LiMn2 O4 powder prepared by a homognilizer has
a higher crystallinity and a smaller particle size
than that prepared by a magnetic stirrer. The
prepared LiMn2 O4 powder has a high discharge
capacity (120.4mAh/g) at the first run, and this
powder also exhibits good cyclability.
