Abstract
A high-field analysis on the kinetics of polarization switching in congruent-grown Z-cut LiNbO3 crystals is reported. An axial anisotropy is observed in the switching current and the sweep rate of the lateral 180° domain motion on the poling direction. These observations are attributed to an internal field of 2.37 kV/mm associated with the nonstoichiometric point defects. This volume effect in turn modifies the sidewise 180° domain motion according to ν = μs[E-(Ec±Eint)] and results in a linear dependence of switching current and the sweep rate on E.
