Sonographic detection of delayed small bowel perforations after blunt abdominal trauma

Isolated perforations of the small bowel resulting from blunt abdominal trauma are rare and difficult to diagnose because of their variable presentation, especially when their appearance is delayed. We report 2 such cases that were diagnosed by sonography and emphasize the usefulness of sonography in detecting bowel injuries after blunt abdominal trauma. (C) 2000 John Wiley and Sons, Inc.
