Abstract
A Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system of Taiwan’s hard clam industry is established in this study. Economic approach and computational partial equilibrium (CGE) model are applied to investigate the impact of adopting certification or HACCP system on the Taiwan’s hard clam industry. Simulations are also conducted for four different scenarios. Our findings suggest that when applying certification or HACCP system, yield of hard clam will decrease from 3.07 to 12.10% of the 2003 level (which is 31,480 mt). Farm price and retail price, on the other hand, will increase by 2.88-11.36% level (41.5NT$/kg) and 1.82-7.19% of the 2003 level (85.18NT$/kg), respectively. Moreover, Taiwan’s hard clam producers will benefit from adopting certification or HACCP system.
