Abstract
In recent years, modern countries in the
world have paid more attentions to the
maintenance problems of Reinforced
Concrete (RC) structures caused by the
inadequate design, construction, and
operation as well as the aging of materials
and corrosion in severe environments. In
order to address these problems, there have
been many research efforts made in
applications of Fiber Reinforced Polymer
(FRP) to the strengthening and retrofitting
of RC structures.
Most of research efforts in applications of
FRP to retrofitting RC structures have been
on experimental studies. There are only a
few on theoretical studies, and very few on
numerical simulations. The present research
is one of many sub-projects of an integrated
project to study the applications of FRP to
retrofitting of RC structures. The goal of the
present research is to effectively predict
behavior and failure mechanism of RC
beams and FRP-retrofitted RC beams using
finite element techniques
