Abstract
Consideration of Poisson's effect is essential in modeling a debonded fiber-matrix interface, which is subjected to Coulomb friction during fiber pull-out. The stress analysis is formidable when Poisson's effect is considered pointwise along the sliding length. In the present study, Poisson's effect is treated in an average sense, and both the stress analysis and the analytical solutions for fiber pull-out are greatly simplified. Applications of this averaging technique to fiber push-out and indentation problems are also addressed. The simplified solutions obtained in the present study are in excellent agreement with the previous more rigorous, complex solutions, but are more tractable than the rigorous solutions. ? 1993.
