Abstract
The cholesteric phase may be induced by the chiral dopants, which were dissolved in nematic liquid crystal. We have synthesized a series of 2,3-O-Isopropylidene-(L)-threitol derivative, modified with the oligophenylenevinylene (OPV) substituent at 2,3-position as mesogenic group. Here we modified the OPV moiety by alkylation, expecting the mesogenic group would have better alignment within the nematic liquid crystal. compared with previous results of non-alkylated OPV substituent, cholesteric phase appears when mesogenicroup with alkylation. We have successfully induced the cholesteric phase by the chiral dopants, and HTP of the chiral dopants is up to 12.
