Abstract
Malaysian ladies coach was launched by KTM Komuter Railway Company on 28th of April 2010. According to the president of KTM, statistics showed 60% of passengers are women, traveling with ladies coach not only provide them a comfort and safe journey, but also avoiding the risks of sexual harassment in a congested environment.
Due to lack of gender consciousness in Malaysia, “space reserved for female” is a whole new concept for Malaysians; therefore the authority faced some problems, such as man running into ladies coach, while launching the ladies coach at beginning. Few questions to think about, lady’s coach as a space of gender segregation, does it affect KTM passengers? What will be the main reason for female to choose ladies coach rather than general coaches? KTM Komuter company did not have a statistic number to prove whether the number of sexual harassment has decrease of not after the launch of ladies coach.
The case study of Malaysia is totally differences from other countries of its particular ethnics, cultures and religions. How does each ethnics and religions look upon ladies coach in their daily life, especially Muslim women? Will Muslim women take ladies coach more than other ethnics and the man view of ladies coach.
