Abstract
Digital Video Broadcast standard for Terrestrial transmissions (DVB-T) has adopted Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) standard for source coding and Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (COFDM) as the transmission technology. Therefore it can provide high-quality video and audio broadcasting.
In this thesis, a multimode baseband DVB-T receiver design based on ETSI EN 300 744 standard is proposed. The receiver includes Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), channel estimation and equalization, inner decoder with inner deinterleaver and Viterbi decoder, and outer decoder with outer deinterleaver and Reed-Solomon decoder.
A system level model by Simulink is established. This model including transmitter, channel and receiver is used to simulate and evaluate the performance of the proposed receiver and is also the blueprint for designing, verifying and integrating modules. Multimode silicon IPs being able to operate under all transmission modes described in the standard are proposed. Besides, the important features and design consideration of the proposed receiver are also discussed.
Each module in the receiver is then carried out by Verilog HDL code. All modules are successfully verified and integrated by the test pattern generated by system model. Synopsys Design Compiler is utilized to synthesize the RTL codes using UMC Artisan 0.18μm standard cell library. Apollo is used to place & route the chip. The total chip area is 45.02 mm2.
