Abstract
In recent years, to investigate, collect, and classify existing data related to urban and regional planning and research has become a very important task to be engaged in. The Studio of Environ-mental Planning and Design in the National Taiwan University had accomplished two studies in-response to this mission in last two years. The contents of the paper mainly illustrate some important features of the studies and one method to establish a data classification table. The paper is divided into three parts: Part Ⅰ, to de-scribe the study purposes; Part Ⅱ， to introuduce the; mean used in collecting and investigating the professional data of urban and regional planning and to briefly analyze the contents of the data base; part Ⅲ to explore the purposes and principles. Of the professional data classification and to explain the method which organizes key words to define the data classification table
