Abstract
Barrier-free facilities are the features of advanced countries. Passengers who use barrier-free facilities include disabled people, elders, youngsters and pregnant women. Nowadays, researches of barrier-free facilities in Taiwan are mainly focused on ground transportation. However, the characteristics of air transportation are different than that of the ground. Due to the reason that travel time of domestic flight is short and it can be replaced by other modes, international flight is selected as our objective. Population wise, disabled people are approaching one million, the elders two and the youngsters three. The numbers above means that the importance of barrier-free facilities in transportation cannot be overlooked.
In our research, disabled people include the handicapped, sightless and hearing-impaired people. Their demand will be discussed by the survey. For the survey, the research is aimed at disabled people. In the beginning, we use Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) to design the questionnaire. First of all, we go to welfare organization to execute the investigation. Then, we make use of the technique of Descriptive Statistics, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Econometrics to analyze the demand and the characteristics of air transportation. Meanwhile, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) can be used to validate the questionnaire. Finally, the research measures barrier-free facilities in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and compared them with the evaluating standards by the Ministry of Transportation And Communications. This research connects the survey of barrier-free facilities with the opinions of the passengers to state the suggestions for improvement.
