Abstract
Pollen analysis of core MD972148 from
South China Sea shows that the amount of
palynomorph is higher during glacial. This
is due to the nearness of core site to the land
during low sea level. Compared OIS 4 and
OIS 2, trees and spores are abundant in OIS
4 and also Dacrydium and Podocarpus are
higher there. This clearly indicates OIS 4 is
less drier and probably colder than OIS 2.
Based on result of this study and the other
record available, the latitudinal difference of
the distribution of grassland or savanna is
revealed, indicating southward shift of the
subtropical high during the last glacial yhan
the penultimate glacial.
