Abstract
This thesis developed a vehicle seat lift for the disabled. At the beginning of the design process, a configuration design of the seat lift is proposed. The parametric design method is then used for the detail design of the seat lift during the design process. The vehicle seat lift is mounted on the rotate plate of the seat base. The seat base is fixed on the car floor, and can provide the slide and rotate motions for the seat. The lifting mechanism is driven by a motor that connects to a gearbox, which connects to two shafts. The power transmits from each of the shaft to a bevel gear, and then to a worm and gear system that connects to the rear linkage of the lifting mechanism. The rotation of the rear linkages will lift/lower the seat and the passenger sitting on it. The seat and the seat frame are further modified into a detachable seat and a connecting seat frame. The seat can be detached from the linkage and transformed into a wheelchair. The finite element analysis and the optimum design method are also applied for ensuring the design safety of the whole structure. Finally, a prototype is manufactured, and the validity of the design process is checked. Performances of the seat lift are also measured. The measured result shows that the seat lift design is safe and can be installed on passenger cars for the disabled.
