Abstract
This paper describes a developing system for freeway traffic controls. The objective aims at the development of automatic navigation and drive. In order to improve capacity and safety, reduce pollution, save energy and take other multiple purposes into consideration, highway traffic control strategies must be innovated. At present, highway automation systems have been studied in several countries. A system called ADVANCE-F has been proposed and programmed in Taiwan. The project expects to use computers to manipulate vehicle operation within a dominated lane in a freeway. The main frame includes a control center (a host computer), detection systems (controllers, markers) vehicle solutions (speed control and steering control mechanism, emergency sensors), and their 2-way communication systems (microwave beacons, receivers, transmitters, channels). The paper reveals the function of its elements above, and indicates the system's operation named a continuous dynamic control system (CDCS). Finally, the potential application will also be described.
