Abstract
Solid-state materials and devices have rapidly been utilized for biological and medical applications, such as disease diagnosis, environmental monitoring, as a cell culturing platform, and for drug screening. The materials do not only include conventional semiconductors such as silicon, but also include emerging 2D materials. The devices are fabricated as FETs, SAW devices, triboeletric nanogenerators (TENG), surface plasmon resonance (SPR), or amperometric electrodes for sensors to detect proteins, DNA, gases, and heavy metals.Microfluidics are also introduced and demonstrated for multiple operation process and integration with sensor arrays.New sensory circuits and systems are also presented. This focus issue reports the advanced solid-state technologies that utilize novel materials to enhance device characteristics for diverse applications.
