Abstract
Background: Since the advent of drug-eluting stents (DES), they have been used with increasing frequency, especially for left main disease, vessels of small diameter, or lesions with intrastent restenosis. To elucidate the safety, effect , and complication rate of DES, we designed a retrospective study. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 357 patients receiving DES deployment with a total of 584 stents at our hospital from September 26, 2003, to September 16, 2004. Results: Patients’ mean age was 64.1 11 .0 years; 437 Taxus (74.8%) and 147 Cypher stents (25.2%) were implanted. Stent diameter ranged from 2.25 to 3.50 mm , with stents sized 3.00 mm being the most Commonly implanted( 44.2%). Stent length ranged from 8 to 33 mm.Seven patients( 12 stents) had ischemia-driven target vessel revascularization. Four patients had subacute thrombosis ( SAT), all of whom underwent complex interventins ( left main stenting) or high-risk procedures(complex proliferative-type in- stent restenosis). There was no significant correlation between target vessel revascularization with operators (p. 305), the location of stenting (p 0.252), age (p seemed a trend toward higher rate of target vessel revascularization or subacute thrombosis in patients with smaller stent size, although it was not statistically significant (p needed to further elucidate the risk factors for restenosis or complication rates with DES.

To permanently archive and promote researcher profiles and scholarly works, Library integrates the services of “NTU Repository” with “Academic Hub” to form NTU Scholars.
