Abstract
Grounded CPW with a longitudinal slot at the bottom ground under the signal trace is proposed to reduce the loss of the transmission line at the sub-THz band. Adding a slot under the signal trace redistributes the E-field to the gaps between the signal trace and the two side-grounds. With a larger area for E-field distribution, the loss can be reduced. The wider the slot, the lower the loss in simulation and measurement. At slot widths of 40 μm and 50 μm, the losses are reduced by 37% and 40% at 140 GHz as compared with the traditional GCPW. At 300 GHz, the losses are reduced by 27% and 34%.
