Abstract
Robust messaging is a critical requirement for high reliable messaging in cyber-physical systems and Internet-of-Things. The intuitive approach to assure the robustness is either duplicating the message on the network or retransmission with acknowledge. Unfortunately, the first approach pollutes the networks with duplicated messages; the second approach prolongs the propagation delays in average. This work develops a method, called Backward-Cancel Mechanism, to assure the robustness without significantly reduce bandwidth utilization, called network goodput. The mechanism is designed for both homogeneous networks and heterogeneous networks to support practical use scenario in cyber-physical systems and Internet-of-Things applications. The evaluation results show that Backward-Cancel Mechanism can increase network goodput up to 1.7 times.
