Abstract
Dating of igneous and detrital zircons derived from the metamorphic complex that forms northeastern Mindoro (Philippines), reveals an episode of Middle to Late Permian (250-270. Ma) magmatism. The new age data confirm the previously contentious pre-Mesozoic age of the metamorphics and suggest that they are part of the rifted margin of SE China rather than the oceanic arc-dominated Philippine Mobile Belt. The magmatic episode revealed in this study coincides with arc-related granite magmatism in Hainan (China) thus may expand the known extent of that continental arc along the southeastern margin of southern China. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.
