Abstract
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a serious complication that can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. Although the incidence of VTE is lower in the Asian population compared with Caucasians, colorectal surgery patients still face an increased risk. This review article presents a case report of a patient who developed pulmonary embolism following surgery and provides an updated evidence-based review of VTE risk assessment and prophylactic strategies in colorectal surgery.
