Abstract
Recently, the international progress has become fashionable in the construction industry. According to ENR’s report, the Top 225 International Contractors generated $390.01 billion in revenue in 2008 from projects outside their domestic countries, which increases 25.7% of the international revenue earned in 2007. Due to the development of the globalization, there are many potential benefits of internationalization in construction industry which have been identified in the past research. However, it is difficult for a company to expand its enterprise in the foreign country. There are many critical factors and develop strategies for a company to expand their territory. This study is focus on the internationalization strategies of the construction industry with two key factors: the internationalization speed and the internationalization regularity.
We argue that a firm’s strategies of internationalization speed and regularity are subject to a firm’s degree of internationalization. We establish three hypotheses as follow: firstly, we assumed that the degree of internationalization will positively influence the speed of internationalization; secondly, the degree of internationalization will negatively influence the regularity of internationalization; finally, the speed of internationalization will positively influence the regularity of internationalization. The construction industry data were collected from the database of ENR and analyzed by econometric method. According the empirical result, the first and the third hypotheses are supported but the second one is rejected.
