Abstract
Design and Analysis of a Lifting Seat Mechanism for Disabled Person Abstract Based on the psychology of the human, the disabled people are always hoping that they can enter/exit the car by themselves without assistance of other people. This thesis developed a seat lift mechanism for the disabled in small cars. First, a configuration design of the seat lift is proposed based on the mechanism synthesis theory. Parallelogram linkages are used to maintain the horizontal position of the seat, and crank-slider mechanisms are used to lift/down the seat. Crank-slider mechanisms are driven by a ball-screw which is powered by a motor. The rotation of the ball screw results in linear motion of the slider and rotation motion of crank linkages, which causes the seat in up/down motion. Through the horizontal position controlled by parallelogram linkages, the stability of the seat is ensured during the lift/down operations. Then, a parametric design program is developed for automatically generating the solid model of the lift mechanism, and the motion pictures are generated to check the relationships and interferences of all components during the up/down motions. In order to ensure the structural safety, the strength and rigidity of the critical components are also analyzed by finite element method in several motion positions. Structural optimization method was also applied to improve strength of the seat and also to minimize the mass of the seat. Finally, the prototype of the lift mechanism is manufactured, and the performances of the lift mechanism are measured. From the measured result, it shows that the lift mechanism developed in this thesis can be applied successfully to small cars and can be used for helping the disabled entering/exiting the car.
