Abstract
In our previous project we have successfully built a 3GPP WCDMA base station receiver
with smart antenna capability. This project uses the MC-CDMA as the downlink physical layer
technique. This not only can complement our previous work on 3GPP uplink receiver
implementation but also provides a backward-compatible evolutionary next-generation wireless
standard for wide-band wireless internet services.
In the second year, we have proposed a new pilot-based channel estimation algorithm
for the OFDM system and have successfully applied the estimaiot n to adaptive antenna array.
We have also proposed jao int carrier frequency and timing frequency offset estimation
algorithm using a weighted least square techniqueIn. addition, to combat then on-linearity impairment of the transmitter power amplifier, a pre-distortion technique has been implemented
and tested on multi-carrier signals and was shown to be able to reduce the backoff in PA by 4
dB.. Finally, the baseband receiver architecture has beend esigned and detrial circuit design
and FPGA emulation reveal the efficacy of the proposed architecture.
