Abstract
Finite element analysis of tibia with 20-node element meshes
【Abstract】
Finite element analysis is a powerful tool for numerical analysis. However, the generation of suitable hexahedral meshes is still difficulty. In early years, meshes were generated by human. So the mesh generation costs much time and labor. Nowadays, because the computer hardware is growing quickly and new methods are developing constantly, it is easily to generate 2-D element meshes. But it is still formidable to generate hexahedral meshes of 3-D freeform models. The past methods almost generate meshes with tetrahedral element meshes. But hexahedral meshes can generate model with fewer meshes and get the more accurate solution.
Here we present a method to generate 20-node hexahedral meshes of human bone. Work starts with CT graphs, and deals first by Mimics. The 3-D model with triangle meshes is obtained. The first step, all the contours are searched from the model every layer. Second, the nodes in every contour are decided according to length. Third, the task must to do is finding the corresponding nodes and elements layer by layer. Thus the 20-node hexahedral element meshes of model are obtained. At last, the meshes are analyzed by ABAQUS, and compare the results of two type element meshes.
