Abstract
Abstract
This paper proposes a simple mathematical model for efficient short-term scheduling of nonsequential
multi-product and multi-unit batch processes under mixed intermediate storage policies
and unit-dependent setup times and sequence-dependent changeover times to minimize the
makespan or the earliness of the completion of the orders.
The intermediate storage policies for the considered batch processes include unlimited intermediate
storage (UIS), no intermediate storage (NIS), finite intermediate storage (FIS), zero wait
(ZW), and mixed intermediate storage (MIS).
The problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear program (MILP). Several numerical
examples are supplied, demonstrating the efficiency and the wide applicability of the proposed
scheduling model in face of various different environment.
