Abstract
The Hsin-chu Science-based Industrial Park (HSIP) was established in 1980, administered by the
National Science Council, to provide an infrastructure that would facilitate and accelerate the
processes of technological diffusion. From 1980 to 2001, the product value increased from 10.5
billions to 930 billions and its make up about 10% of GDP. In this study, Ker-ya Creek, the
receiving water body of wastewater discharge from HSIP was monitoring about its heavy metals
content both in water and sediments. Meanwhile, the environment impacts of heavy metals to
nearby oyster beds and farmland was investigated.
