Abstract
As the advance of information technology, the international economy exchange is more frequent. Many famous multinational enterprises combined the advantage of production all over the world to create the best production performance and therefore emphasize the importance of regional characteristic. Besides competitiveness of nations, the issues of regional competitiveness are also concerned by scholars and government. The study focuses on regional income and production, connecting with the concept of complement between location and industrial clusters to discuss the relationship between driver industrial clusters and regional competitiveness on Taiwan by using principal component analysis and multiple regression analysis. It tried to connect industrial clusters with the indicators of regional competitiveness and provide suggestions based on the conclusion to be the reference for constructing regional competitiveness indicators in the study. The research findings are as follows:
1. Because of the different industrial structures and macroeconomics, the results are different. The analysis of each year is also different from three years combined together.
2. Location quotient is related to annual disposable income per capita rather than annual total value of production.
3. Ellison-Glaeser indicator(dartboard approach) is related to annual output value, but the model of electronic industry doesn’t support hypothesis II in the study.
4. To develop service industries which include high innovation, high value added, high growth potential,” and “high output value, more employment opportunities, high industry linkage” may enhance regional competitiveness, for example: financial industry.
5. The regional location quotient of commerce isn’t related to regional competitiveness; it is supposedly related to the computing method of location quotient and regional macroeconomics.
6. Most empirical results support the hypotheses, but it might be worthwhile to consider the effects of different nature of industries and regions when doing the research.
