Abstract
This thesis divided Wang Ting-Xiang’s philosophical theory to three parts. First, in the metaphysical theory, the major concept in Wang Ting-Xiang’s philosophical theory is qi(氣). Wang thinks qi is the only one concept which is concrete and real. He tried to use qi and li(理) to build a cosmological theory to explain the phenomena in the world. Also, he tried to use qi and xing(性) to explain the human nature is not only good but also evil. Second, in the possibility of practical theory, Wang asserted everyone has to learn to acquire knowledge which means the value of the judgment of good and evil. So, people can follow this moral standard to put morality in practice. However, Wang thinks this moral standard of good and evil is founded by the holy sage, and the holy sage is the same as everyone needed to learn. Therefore, we don’t know how he can build an objective moral standard. That is the reason we doubt Wang’s assertion is not completed. Finally, in the practical theory, to reveal the change of phenomena in the world, Wang asserts that people cannot only study books but also from life(知行兼舉).
