Abstract
Due to the building of Metropolitan Traffic System and the city’s development, north Kaohsiung’s built environment and ecosystem were economically and socially challenged. So it is important we must understand the urban context (ecologically, socially, and physically) and then develop a strategy that most fit it and both sustainable.
Green infrastructure was a kind of spatial planning concept both deal with land resources’ preservation, management and against sprawl phenomenon. It builds landscape structure with hubs, links and sites. Physically, green infrastructure is connected green space network. It involves natural areas and the element within it, public and private preserves, other open land and worthily preserved resources. If people would allow to plan and management these green space resources well, it could provide people with a lot of benefits.
North Kaohsiung was not heavily developed, so it keeps some of the Tsaogong ditch and canals. But green lands here are scattered in different city region. This research hopes to preserve historical and ecological resources with green infrastructure’s concept and spatial planning to make a livable urban space.
Thus, this research will devote on how the green infrastructure’s mechanism functions and works. And then puts it into the real context of north Kaohsiung, develop a plausible strategy which benefits the city, ecosystem and community.
