Abstract
We study the electron-phonon interaction in quantum wells, especially when resonance occurs; that is, when the longitudinal optical-phonon energy is equal to the difference between two subband energies. By using a rather general electron-phonon interaction Hamiltonian and taking into account the confinement of phonons, we calculated the energy shift, level broadening, and effective mass. It was found that the electron-phonon interaction makes a very significant contribution to all of them near resonance. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
