Abstract
The isothermal dissolution of monodispersed flat, cylindrical, and spherical solid particles in liquids is simulated kinetically. Here we assume that the diffusion of solute molecules through a surface layer near the solid-liquid interface is the rate determining step. An analytical expression for the temporal variation of the size of a particle is derived. The effect of the variation of the bulk liquid concentration due to the dissolution of particles in a batch apparatus has been taken into account; thus, the result obtained is applicable for both low solubility cases and for high solubility cases. The variation of the bulk liquid concentration can have a significant effect on the dissolution time of a particle. © 1991.
