Abstract
The objective of this experiment
were to evaluate whether DT ( the
difference of leaf and air temperature)
or CWSI (crop water stress index) is
a better plant water stress indicator for
tropical carpetgrass and centipedegrass.
In the plastic tunnel experiment, the leaf
temperature of drought treated plants
was 6~7℃ higher than that of the wellwatered
plant in tropical carpetgrass and
centipedegrass. After rewatering, the
leaf temperatures drop significantly. The
DT of drought treated plants in both
plastic tunnel and phytotron was 6℃,
and that of well-watered plants in plastic
tunnel was 0℃, but present 3~4℃ in
phytotron. So DT could not be a
reasonable quantifier for water stress.
However, the CWSI values of wellwatered
plants and drought treated
plants, either in plastic tunnel or in
phytotron, were about 0 and 1
respectively. Therefore, the CWSI
values, range from 0 (no stress) to 1
(maximum stress), could be a better
indicator of plant water status than leaf
temperature and DT values in both
tropical carpetgrass and centipedegrass.
