Abstract
This paper presents a two-stage buck-flyback converter as an alternative topology for the 800 V Auxiliary Power Supply (APS) for inverter traction system. Currently, the use of APS is limited to a conventional flyback converter, which suffers from very high voltage stress on the semiconductor switch that are beyond the scope of Si switches rating. Detailed analysis of the proposed two-stage topology regarding power stage and controller design is discussed in this paper and validated through prototype testing. The experimental results of 16 W laboratory prototype that the proposed converter operates normally with significantly lower MOSFET ratings, with the peak voltage of 280 V, showcasing its potential for practical implementation and efficiency improvement in the 800 V inverter traction system.
