Abstract
A finite element visco plastic model with MARC as the tool is used in analyzing forming of a rectangular pan with super plastic Al-Li 8090. The forming pressure control algorithm is that applied pressure increment is increased according to: Ap = (1 /Z) Ap0 if 0.5 < Z < 0.85 Ap = 2Ap0 if Z < 0.5 where Ap0 is the previous pressure increment and Z is the ratio of maximum strain rate (£max) to target strain rate (Starget)- Also, a simplified analytical plane strain model is referred. The calculated pressure-time profile and thickness distribution are compared with the experimental input and result, and discrepancies are discussed. © 1993 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
