Abstract
We experimentally elucidated the behavior of steady-state blanket produced from raw water of turbidity 100-450 NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Unit) subjected to underdosed, optimal, and overdosed coagulation. Polyaluminum chloride (PACI) was the coagulant. The blanket heights and effluent turbidities in an upflow suspended bed were recorded at different upflow velocities. Based on the one-dimensional model proposed by Chen et al. (2003a), the steady-state blanket concentration were estimated, whence the three-dimensional solid-flux plot constructed. When the solid flux was plotted against the solid concentration and the ratio of raw water turbidity and PACI dose, a master surface presented all tests in a unified way was noticeable. This plot could be used to predict steady-state blanket behavior at change in water turbidity or in PACI dose.
