Abstract
In the post-PC era, the development of information appliances (IA) is blooming thanks to Internet. Most vendors in information and electronic industry take IA as their next market place. Mobile phone (smart phone included) is the most important product among information appliances. Both Taiwan’s information and IC industry has good manufacturing and reputation in PC and electronic consumer production. Now, Taiwan is an important region for worldwide mobile phone manufacturing. Embedded software is one of the core components to drive product cost and product differentiation. Currently Taiwan has already built up embedded software technology for mobile phone by some government projects. It’s will help Taiwan’s vendors being more and more competitive in mobile phone market. “Spin off” program will be the way to sustain Taiwan’s embedded software technology.
