Boston-NeuroTalks calendar 3.0: a talk database powered by collective intelligence.

Abstract
Boston is home to several prominent academic institutions, and has one of the most active neuroscience communities in the world.1 All year round in Boston, numerous public presentations are given by neuroscientists from inside and outside the area. In such a compact city, local researchers can easily make a short trip out to other neuroscience centers in metropolitan Boston for a talk, exchanging their latest discoveries and ideas with colleagues. Oftentimes, talk events are distributed through email lists. These local email lists, to some extent, represent diverse groups of research interests or methodologies. However, as research in neuroscience becomes more and more interdisciplinary, the abundance of local email lists has started to impede information dissemination. Not every talk host is aware of the existence of all the other email lists. As a result, a talk announcement may be sent to popular email lists, but does not necessarily reach all potential event attendees in the area. Moreover, sometimes a talk can be scheduled at a time conflicting with another event in an adjacent institute. Both a talk host and his/her invited speaker may be embarrassed by the paucity of audience if the conflicting speaker happens to be more popular. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2011.
