Abstract
From a two-dimensional reduced-gravity model, we simulate the interaction of a typhoon-induced mesoscale eddy and a western boundary current. Under the influence of both the planetary β-effect and curvature effect of the western boundary current, the circular vortex becomes unstable and deforms into an ellipse. Meanwhile, the eddy lose energy into the mean circulation field.
